Devlog 8: End of production sprint 2

Introduction

-pant pant pant-

WHOOOOW again! Just like last time we’ve made it to the end of the sprint! Three weeks of hard work made the game evolve from a white/grey game into an energetic and lively experience. This, together with improved gameplay and sounds, has made the experience significantly better. As we would say in dutch “Our efforts are truly throwing off their fruits!”

Note that this is (sadly enough) the last time that we’ll be adding new features. The end of this journey is nearing, which means it is time for refinement. Next up are two weeks of polish! Making everything we have to feel and look as good as possible! But before you can get excited about the future, let’s enjoy what we’ve created in the present.

Texturing

Let’s start the devlog by reading your future. Did you by any chance get yourself new pants? Maby a nice dress? A plushie onesie? Or a complete robot suit? You probably said no to at least one of the previous questions! You’re in luck, you can get them here, FOR FREE! (not for sale haha)

If you said yes to every question. Wow, could you lend me your robot suit once in a while? … For research…

All character models have finally been unwrapped and textured. Download the current version to see these amazing characters alive in all their colours!

This week focussed a lot on unwrapping and texturing existing models. This is also the case for the props spread around the level. The game became a lot more readable and easier to the eyes thanks to this.

Feel free to look at the scroll bar above for more textured models

Complex camera movement

It took a while to get it working, but the camera finally takes the pathfinding into account! No more cheezy waiting to get others killed. The flow shall go on! Keep on searching for the shortest path, and the camera will listen!

Other than that, to all less experienced players out there. Your chances of beating your cocky brother that plays 24/7 have increased! The camera now doesn’t simply snap to the player upfront. Although that player has the most influence, other players now also lightly control the camera. This makes the overall experience a bit more forgiving for everyone without holding back the player upfront.

QOL Improvements

  • Main menu
The main menu has been improved upon even more. Intuitive ways to learn all game controls have been added to the level. This together with some better prop placements to make it visually more appealing.

  • Character Selector There is a small change made to the character selector. Before, the game would start once every player was ready. But this would lead to the game already starting when there was still a player wanting to join. This was solved by now needing to press a button before the game starts.

  • Death particles It might be a bit over the top, but it’s cool ^^

  • Winning screen It became more readable. It still needs a small beauty overhaul but looks already nice.

  • Moving platforms The platforms are now attached to a drill with a cool rope!

Thank you for reading until the end! We hope to see you again for the final next two blogs!
