Devlog 9: Start of polish sprint
Introduction
Dear peeps and gentle peeps, I welcome you again to this spectacular devlog in which we show you the growth of our game. Furthermore, I congratulate you for reading this one, because the changes this time are faboulous! In dutch we would say “Let’s not turn around the pot” and let’s spill the tea!
New Level
It was time for some change. Okay, the game is fun, the characters look amazing, and the props are awesome… however… Even though the game is made in Unity, it lacks “unity” within the game itself. The gameplay and visuals felt too separated from one another and an overhaul was needed! And so came the revolution! We had to do it… Kill our darling. The level, which we grew accustomed to, had to be remade. But it wasn’t in vain, the most fun parts were of course used to integrate into the new level.
We decided to go for a newer esthetic. A real garage in which you could jump around from tool to tool, enter the attic and even explore further through the walls of the house! This is to immerse the player in the role of a toy. Now that all relative scales are correct, you can start to feel how big the world around you is.
Note that the lighting and some aspects to “beautify” all the details aren’t completed yet (luckily we still have a week until the deadline!). The gives the overview of the level a “flat” feeling. However, this feeling is far less prominent while playing.
UI Revamp
The UI has finally received its well-deserved revamp! The color scheme has been adjusted to fit the style of our game. This together with some extra animations in the character selector makes everything -mwah!- (cheff’s kiss)
QOL updates
Rumble in the jungle
Is everybody ready to shakeeeee!? Not for Sale brings its best “cha-cha” moves to the game. Get even greater immersion thanks to the new rumble features during the game.
Although this rumbling made the black borders scarier, we wanted to take it a notch further. Screen shake makes it even more intimidating, making players warry of the dark abyss.
Sculpting the future
Some new models were added to avoid repetition throughout the level. Repetition is currently still a problem but we hope to reduce this by next week.
I said BOOMBOOMBOOM now let me hear you say WAYHOO
The boombox has come to life! The speakers tremble to the music, and there are some cool music note particles flying around. All in all, it looks a lot better than the static mesh it was before. This is accompanied by a small (but very fun) thing! The spray cans actually spray paint. Now, if you stand on top of one, it starts spraying. This isn’t really something that was necessary, but that’s what polish is all about. The little things.
if you like it then you shoulda put a decal on it
Decals are coming! The current build still lacks them but they exist. We promise to deliver them on a silver plate next week for the final devlog!
We greatly appreciate you reading ’till the end! Feel free to add some comments or give some feedback to help us improve as game developers. Hope to see you again next week for our final version!
